Hello, welcome to 321 
Unfortunately messages do delete after a few days of being there or non activity within a few days.
Also, if you click/accidently click the 'clear' when you open your inbox, it does clear all the messages from your inbox.
I happen to do this often with my fat fingers!
But if this does happen, you can find the persons username and open back up the PM and the messages should still be there
